You Do You…

Monday Musings … October 24, 2022

As humans, we have a deep longing to express ourselves and to be valued for who we are. At the same time, we also have a need for acceptance, belonging and connection. This tension between authenticity and belonging are both fundamental to being human.

However, I think it's worth noting that acceptance and connection does not need to come at the expense of conformity. Particularly, conformity to the often limiting, uninspired and rigid expectations of our society. The status quo often has a very narrow view of what is acceptable, desirable and valued.

So how might we navigate this tension?

Remember that your uniqueness does not need to come at the expense of cultivating connections with others. You can be YOU as well allowing others to do the same with humility and compassion.

We are all worthy of being who we are AND we can practice this without losing concern for the impact our choices can have on others.

We can embrace and nurture a deep relationship to ourselves while also honoring the individuality and lived experiences of others. We can practice creating a world where we can tend to our needs and the needs of others without losing sight of who we are at our core.

Do YOU friend.

Inspire others to do the same with kindness, curiosity and care.
